Muay Thai Fighters Compete at WKA Nationals!
April 1, 2012

LINXX Academy sent its Muay Thai Competition Team to the World Kickboxing Associations (WKA) North American Championships held at the U-Turn Sports Complex in Richmond, Virginia on March 30 to April 1, 2012. The event included United States, Canadian, and Mexican competitors, but it was also a platform to select members for the WKA U.S. National Team that qualified to represent the United States at the WKA World Championships.

The event included both junior and adult divisions. The junior division included ages 13-17 and K-1 rules, which allows elbows to the head with elbow pads. The adults division (ages 18+) used K-1 Thai Boxing rules which allowed clinch/knee and elbows allowed to the body. Winners of the K-1 rules division and open division qualified for the U.S. National Team to travel to the 19th annual WKA Amateur World Championships in Orlando, Florida.

Representing LINXX Academy in the adults division was Johnny Chacon. Johnny ended up competing in three fights. The first two fights he won by unanimous decisions, which qualified him for the finals. Fighting for the WKA North American Title, Johnny lost by a decision in a very tough and competitive bout. Great job Johnny on making it to the finals!

LINXX Academy was represented by the following competitors in the juniors division: Deandre Corbe, Shannon Morris, and Jacob Turpin. All three competitors did an outstanding job representing LINXX Academy. Deandre lost a very close decision to a seasoned fighter in a fight that many considered to be the fight of the tournament. Jacob Turpin fought valiantly, but lost in a decision against an opponent that had a 15 lbs. weight advantage over him. Shannon Morris fought with tremendous heart and won first place and a WKA Championship Belt. Deandre and Shannon were both invited to compete at the WKA Amateur World Championships.

Congratulations to coaches Dan Brooks, Khristopher Gonzalez, and Nestor Bayot and the Competition Team! Go Team LINXX!
